Ward 2 and Across Town

Ward 2 brings variety to Oakville. We are affluent, highly educated and culturally diverse. Our neighbourhoods comprise the high density areas centred on Kerr Village, suburban enclaves of Glen Abbey and our older, long-established southern neighbourhoods.

Our issues are just as varied. Some, like infill construction, stormwater renewal, speeding hotspots or noise issues change area by area. Others are concerns we share with residents across Oakville - sensible growth, community safety and wellbeing, traffic/transportation pressures and a sense of lessening access to Town Hall.

Ray's Accomplishments

Over the past Council term, Ray's work on behalf of Ward 2 and the wider community has delivered.

Through his seat on the Oakville Public Library committee, a new library in downtown Oakville will be a reality.
Ray worked alongside staff, residents and the Kerr Village BIA to see the development and design of the Kerr Village/Lakeshore Streetscape plans move toward initial implementation work.
Improved Christmas lighting came to both Westwood Park and Coronation Park.
Coronation Park has a new, accessible and inclusive Children's Playground with rubberized surfacing, a non-verbal communication board, a sensory dome and wheelchair accessible equipment which align with the legislative requirements for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2025.
Additional new traffic light installations and Pedestrian Crossings have been added to Ward 2 neighbourhoods to increase safety and help protect school children and seniors.
Ray's advocacy for additional traffic calming measures in hot spot neighbourhoods like Monks Passage, Queen Mary Drive, Felan Avenue, Bridge Road and Woodside Drive are bringing results.
Vendors are benefiting from improvements and ease-of-use changes to the On-Street Patio Program.
Tannery Park and Shipyard Park are seeing new improvements and public trail systems on the waterfront.
Ward 2's Trafalgar Community Centre has Oakville's first-ever outdoor artificial ice rink
Work is underway on the rehabilitation program to reduce erosion of the Lake Ontario shoreline.
Ray's Council Motion of July 2023 resulted in Oakville adopting the policy that green infrastructure be preferred, and grey infrastructure only where necessary, with a program of public consultation.

What's Ahead?

Council's next term will face old challenges and new. Rapid growth, changing weather patterns and evolving technologies have all brought new, unexpected issues that will require municipal responses that reflect innovation, retention of our natural assets and continued protection of our neighbourhoods and their character. Ray is committed to improving Oakville's resident-centric service delivery.

Community Safety & Wellbeing

Ray will continue to favour support for Policing and Wellbeing programs that maintain and enhance Oakville's ranking of one of Canada's safest places.

Transportation

Oakville must pressure the province for the long-promised Kerr Street Grade Separation in order to provide crucial infrastructure needed to handle increased in high density developments in Midtown and Kerr Village.

Sensible Growth

Growth is inevitable, but it must be sensible, balanced development that respects infrastructure adequacy, and neighbourhood preservation in response to local population increases.

Protect Character of Stable Neighbourhoods

Many aspects of our established neighbourhoods are those that define Oakville as a Town. Ray will continue to advocate on behalf of residents to ensure change is managed in a way that respects our commitment to protecting the character, quality and heritage our stable neighbourhoods.

Green Stormwater Infrastructure

Ray will push for better adherence to Oakville's commitment to green infrastructure as a first choice in new stormwater installations as well as retrofits. Sustainability in stormwater management is a cornerstone of sustainability.

Speeding&More

Ray will advocate for increased numbers of by-law enforcement officers, provincial approvals for improved sound monitoring of loud motorized vehicles and ongoing adjustments to current by-laws to reflect new threats to liveability

Data Centres

Ray is actively engaged in advancing Oakville's priorities to create policies, by-laws and regulations designed to handle the issues confronting municipalities from increasing requests for Data Centre locations. We must protect neighbourhoods, utilities & infrastructure, and uphold environmental standards.

Good Government

More work must be done on making the Town of Oakville, its services and those who serve residents more accessible and transparent. Ray will advocate for meaningful public engagement, increased ease of access to information and professional assistance and a bigger commitment to improving Oakville's service attitude.
